Our Presenter for December is

Rhonda McCune

Rhonda McCune teaches English Art: Drawing, Ceramics, Painting, Crafts, Sculpture at NHIA Community Education as well as teaches The Essence of Watercolor Book Arts Educator's Workshop Studio 550.

My first passion is as an art educator. I love to help my students mine their creativity through various media, including watercolor painting and the craft of book art. I encourage them to explore and express their ideas through observation and imagination. My recent courses in watercolor ask students to apply technique and composition expressively and abstractly, allowing the medium to drive the outcome using a balance of letting go and control and the incorporation of "happy accidents" in their work. All classes include student/instructor critiques of finished and on-going work. Most important is the transmutation of ideas, techniques and styles. My students are encouraged to fully embrace the creative process and share with one another their individual experimentation in that process. Additionally, I have used watercolor painting as art therapy with friends who have suffered from brain tumors and Alzheimer's disease. The results are stunning and serve as a kind of immortality for their loved ones.

Artist of the Year 2017

James O'Donnell Wins Artist of the Year

He will be displaying his work at E.W.Poore in Manchester from June 2017 to June 2018

Jim O'Donnell is a traditional landscape artist who paints in both oil and watercolor. Although he has always considered himself to be a creative person he did not start painting until much later in life. From his studio or en plein air, he loves painting the landscapes and seascapes of New England, from Maine to Cape Cod. His paintings strive to capture a moment in time through light, texture and color. Primarily self taught, he has been very fortunate to receive instruction from some talented local instructors from the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Kimball Jenkins School of Art and most recently at E. W. Poore Studios in Manchester, NH with artist, Randy Knowles. He is inspired by the works of several artists including Joseph Mcgurl, Mark Delessio, Dennis Sheehan, Kathleen Dunphy, Elizabeth Tolley and John Houglum. He has participated in many juried and non-juried shows at such venues as East Colony Gallery in Manchester, NH, the Audubon Center in Auburn, NH, the Bernerhof Inn in Glen, NH and the Fine Arts Exhibit, Sunapee Landing Trading Co., in Sunapee, NH. In July, 2017 he will be participating in an exhibit entitled "Beyond the Visible" at the Azure Rising Gallery in Wolfeboro, NH. The show will highlight environmental concerns that are not always visible.
