Gloria Najecki will be our May presenter. Gloria paints our beloved Canines in all kinds of positions and situations.
For New Hampshire artist Gloria Najecki, it all started with a torn ligament. On her dog, that is. When her American bulldog, Trucker, developed a limp, Najecki had to figure out how to pay for a $3,000 surgery. Using her skills as a craft designer Najecki sketched her dog on a piece of shrinking polystyrene, colored it in, shrunk it and slapped it on a pin. She then did it 499 more times.
She sold every one of those pins and Trucker got his leg fixed. What happened next took Najecki by surprise. People were calling requesting custom paintings of their dogs. The demand was so great a business was born.
That was 10 years ago. Since then Najecki has been commissioned to paint pets from all over the country. Her work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and on the cover of the Journal of the American Veterinarian Association.
